  • Do these guys have one of the best jobs in sport?

Since they started in a Friday morning sports spot in 2005 on FBI Radio, Fire Up hosts Stephen Ferris and Kris Gale have been diving WAY too deep into the absurdities, minutiae, atrocities and HUGE personalities in the NRL Universe.

For armchair analysts, dads etc, and megafans alike the Fire Up Podcast continues its winning format of regular guests and a perfunctory, random and opinionated weekly analysis of every round's games.

  • The Guest List Doesn't Disappoint

Sidelines aren’t about the footy field for Stephen and Kris - their sidelines are peppered with celeb name dropping and anecdotes to support, thwart or distract from their opinions, commentary and debates. Think Anthony Albanese, Don Walker from Cold Chisel, and Ben Mendelson.

Outside of the turmoil and triumphs of (arguably) the world's greatest game, they hilariously and sometimes pointlessly wax lyrical with random tidbits from their memory vaults about the post and present characters around the game, and well as the big topics of life, music and culture like you would trying to impress your teammates at the local pub’s Tuesday trivia night.

But they are footy heads, and their Pandora's box of insightful conversations with insiders cover power plays in the NRL realm with long suffering fans, writers and fellow commentators that go beyond the weekend headlines of disappointment, haters, protagonists, and referees.

They amuse and entertain listeners with stories of star spotting in Vegas, dining out with NRL personalities, taking the mickey out of the eastern suburbs, themselves, and other esteemed and not so esteemed NRL persons and events, including the Rugby League Hall of Shame. On the occasions when they get serious, they educate with ongoing talks about concussions, and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and have been known to skirt dangerously close to the underlying politics, celebrity support, and favouritism in the NRL boardrooms.

  • Fire Up! Rugby League is the podcast for lovers (and loathers) of the great game that is NRL; Stephen and Kris have got it all covered. They keep their heads cool and debate the big issues facing the game without pride or prejudice, fear or favour.

It’s gained a loyal following for its unique blend of humour and analysis, and has all the ingredients to become a national institution.

  • Stephen Ferris

Stephen Ferris's extensive experience brings a unique and valuable perspective to the "Fire Up!" podcast - he’s a broadcasting, entertainment and music maestro. Crafting his first mixtape at 14, his passion for music - namely soul - ignited when he immersed himself in the music culture of the US in the late 70s. From the early 80s when he returned to Australia, he has provided the soundtracks for Mardi Gras, Fashion Week (as you do) and Vivid. He’s DJ’d for princes, celebrities and moguls, and shared the stage with Grace Jones, INXS and Scissor Sisters just to name drop a few.

He’s also a bit of an NRL nut. But let’s assume it’s Stephen’s extensive list of radio gigs over the years - Triple J, FBi 94.5 FM, ABC 702, Rhythm FM, and Bondi FM, which enables him to talk about anything, with anyone, that keeps the commentary interesting, and a little off script.

The gold nugget? His eclectic, yet hilarious lyrical mashups of famous tunes, amplify the podcast’s focus of sport commentary with a touch of absurdity.  He lives in Sydney too. Somewhere.

  • Kris Gale

Kris Gale, the multifaceted co-host of Fire up, brings a unique blend of humour and analysis to the world of rugby league. A passionate NRL fan, his extraordinary memory of random moments in the sport, and true insights offer an informed, slightly skewed, opinionated breakdown of the matches as they tackle the sport’s ridiculousness, precise yet sometimes trivial moments, and the larger-than-life characters on the field, and the perimeters of the game.

A little sport obsessed, outside the podcast studio, he showcases his versatility in the world of sports entertainment, as Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) Black Label events commentator. Which has to be said perfectly offsets his other life as a leading economic and law authority around Australia’s R&D Tax Incentives.

He lives with his wife and 2 labradoodles in the hip and gentrified Sydney suburb of Surry Hills, smack-bang in the middle of the Rabbitohs territory. But, it’s about the lifestyle, not the team.
